Munir A Malik new SCBA president

LAHORE: Munir A Malik, a candidate of the Professional Group of Lawyers, has bagged 629 votes for the seat of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president while his rival Raja Haq Nawaz, the candidate backed by outgoing president Justice (r) Malik Qayyum, got 588 votes.
Re-polling was held for the SCBA elections and unofficial results were announced on Monday.
Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bukhari, also a candidate of the Professional Group of Lawyers, contested for the secretary slot and got 592 votes while his rival Mian M Waheed Akhtar got 497 votes. Sahibzada Anwar Hameed, also candidate of the Professional Group of Lawyers, contested for the Punjab vice president slot and got 660 votes while his rival Nawab Saeedullah Khan got 588 votes.
Saeed Akhtar Khan and Khawaja Naveed won the election for the NWFP and Sindh vice president slots respectively unopposed. Tariq Bilal won the finance secretary’s slot unopposed. After the unofficial announcement of the Professional Group of Lawyers’ victory at the city polling station, its leaders chanted slogans for the restoration of democracy and against the military government.
Advocates Hamid Khan, Munir A Malik, Peer Kalim Ahmed Khurshid, Ramzan Chaudhry, Azhar Chaudhry, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari, Sahibzada Anwar Hamid and Zulfiqar Bukhari Syed were among the participants.
Munir A Malik said he would work for the restoration of democracy in the country and for the welfare of lawyers. He accused his rivals of making the Supreme Court Bar Association election controversial.
The Pakistan Bar Council will announce the official results on December 21.
